Lack of Heat
A common problem that we get calls about is a lack of heat coming out of your furnace. It may be that your furnace is not turning on at all. When this happens, first you want to check your electrical panel to see if any breakers are tripped. If so, flip the breakers back and see if that helps. If you still don’t have heat, your thermostat may be to blame.
It’s possible that your thermostat is dirty and just needs to be cleaned out with a soft brush and some compressed air to blow away the dirt. It’s also common that your thermostat needs new batteries. But if neither of these solutions work, then you may need a new thermostat. Our technicians can help you further troubleshoot and offer a solution, whether it’s repair or replacement.
Turning On and Off
Your heater should turn on and off, but not too frequently. If it seems like your furnace is constantly turning on and off every 5-10 minutes, that is adding a lot of wear and tear to your system. It could be that your thermostat is not reading the temperature correctly and needs to be recalibrated.
If you don’t already have a smart thermostat, this is a great reason to switch to one. Smart thermostats are far more accurate at reading the indoor temperature, and can greatly benefit your home when it comes to heating. Plus, switching to a smart thermostat can help you save on your energy bills by boosting efficiency.
Replacement Options
If you find out that you do need to replace your thermostat, you have several options. You can go with a more conventional thermostat that doesn’t have any bells and whistles, but it will not be as efficient.
Or, you could go with a programmable thermostat that is a step up but doesn’t connect to Wi-Fi. You have to make manual changes, but you do get to enjoy the benefits of your thermostat being digital.
Our recommendation is a smart thermostat because it connects to Wi-Fi and you can change the settings from anywhere. You can even automate temperature changes for times when you are home or away.
