The Benefits of Furnace Maintenance
First off, professional furnace maintenance helps your heating system operate more safely. The last thing you want to worry about is your furnace becoming a danger during the winter, right? This is mostly a concern for natural gas furnaces, which are the most common type among homeowners. We do offer 24/7 emergency services if a problem does arise, but you probably prefer to avoid problems to begin with.
During maintenance, our technicians run through a number of steps, from a thorough inspection to component adjustments, and look for places where your furnace may develop safety issues, like a cracked heat exchanger or a loose gas line. The peace of mind you’ll have after your maintenance is worth it all on its own.
Change the Air Filter
Maintenance is not the only thing that will help keep your furnace in good shape, although it is an important part of the process. Changing your air filter is a maintenance task you can, and should, do on your own. Many homeowners believe that the reason for an air filter is to protect the quality of their indoor air. While a clogged or dirty filter can affect indoor air quality, the real concern is inside the heating system itself. Your air filter protects the inside components from dirt, dust, debris, and grime.
But if the filter is too clogged, it cannot do this effectively. Be sure to change your air filter every 3 months, at least. Or if you’re using your furnace pretty often, and/or have significant contaminants in your home such as pet dander or cigarette smoke, then you want to change this out at least once a month.
Schedule Repairs Right Away
When the temperature drops to its lowest in the winter, you likely would rather not have to scramble to call for repairs because your furnace suddenly stopped working. As we mentioned above, we do offer 24/7 emergency services, but it’s only natural that you’d like to avoid this in the first place by ensuring your furnace is well cared for.
This means that if we alert you to any repair needs during maintenance, or if you suspect that your furnace needs repair, you should contact us right away. This could be the difference between a quick fix or a full system breakdown.
