Air conditioning systems are remarkably sturdy, and can last a very long time with proper care and maintenance. Just because you can get your air conditioner to outlive you, though, that does not mean you should. Once air conditioners get to a certain age, it is a good idea to replace them even if they are still running they way they should. Let’s take a look at some of the reasons why you may want to replace an old air conditioner, even if it is working.
Declining Energy Efficiency
The older a system gets, the more wear and tear it collects. And the more wear and tear it collects, the less efficient it will become. The sad fact of the matter is that no matter how well you take care of your air conditioning system, there will come a point where it has to struggle just to do its job. At that point, even though it is technically working, you would be much better off replacing the air conditioner with a new system.
