While plenty of people know to schedule preventive maintenance and prompt repairs for their air conditioning system, they don’t often think about other ways to improve how their homes are cooled. Zone Control

A zone control system consists of a series of dampers, essentially large valves, which are installed in the ducts of your home. Each of these valves have a corresponding thermostat, installed in the room that makes use of their section of duct. When one of the thermostats needs to adjust the temperature, it activates the appropriate system and opens the damper. This allows that room to reap the benefits of the air conditioner (or heater) without affecting the rest of the house.

Zone control addresses two of the biggest problems with central air conditioning: efficiency and versatility. A central air conditioner wastes energy every time it’s turned on by cooling areas of the home that aren’t in use. Zone control ensures that the only rooms that receive air conditioning are the ones that specifically call for it. Central air also does not allow different members of the household to set their own preferred temperatures without affecting the rest of the house. Zone control solves this by allowing each room to have its own temperature settings, offering a much finer degree of control.
