What Type Ac System Right For Home

There are a lot of words getting thrown around today when it comes to air conditioners. With so many types on the market, it can be overwhelming to have to choose one. Which one will give you the most bang for your buck?

We can’t answer what is the best system for your specific home and needs without seeing your home first, but we can offer some guidance, at least. Each type of central air conditioner installation has its own unique advantages, and we’re happy to go over those with you so you can make an educated decision about what’s best for your living space.

Central Air Conditioning Systems

Central air conditioning systems are perhaps the most well-known and the most commonly seen. This is for good reason! Central AC systems are reliable, effective, and relatively affordable to install compared to other cooling systems on the market.

They work by utilizing an outdoor unit and an indoor unit (you’ll hear central systems referred to as split systems). Heat is drawn into the system from your home, and then that air going through a refrigerant cycle to provide you with cooled air through your vents.

There have been a number of advancements made in recent years to these systems, including variable speed technology to make them even more efficient. So long as your central air conditioner is well cared for through routine maintenance and timely repairs, it will last you a very long time.

 

Ductless Air Conditioners

Central air conditioners are called split systems because of their setup, and you’ll often hear ductless systems referred to as “mini-splits.” The ductless system outdoor unit is much smaller, and then instead of only having one large indoor unit, there are up to 4 indoor air handlers that get mounted up on the wall and can be individually controlled from one another.

Ductless systems are highly efficient due to their individualized nature, since you don’t have to cool the entire home just because you want one room cooler. These systems are best for homes with multiple rooms and/or multiple stories. If you have the space and opportunity in a small apartment or studio space, it may make more sense to go with the central system.

Ductless systems operate on heat pump technology. This means they have a reversing valve that allows you to switch the air conditioning function to heating. Ductless systems make even more efficient heaters than they do air conditioners, since they transfer heat rather than generating it.

Once you choose the air conditioner you want installed, you’ll want to ensure you have a trained professional for the job. Only experienced HVAC technicians will have the know-how to properly remove your old system without damaging connections, and test the system to ensure it is functioning as it should.
